A rant.

Have I told you lately how much infertility sucks?

Well.. add 5 more days to the "Math" post below and pour me a double vodka tonic with a double vodka tonic chaser and sit awhile.

68 days without a "real" period will do things to a girl... bad things... ugly things.

This is really starting to piss me off.

And how come I seem to be the only person on the planet who can be on Metformin for 18 months... have diarrhea everyday for 18 months... (18 effing MONTHS people) and still not lose weight or get pregnant????? Is that unbelievable or what? Just google Metformin and you will find story after story about people losing bazillions of pounds and getting pregnant on this wonderful miracle drug. Me?... nah. But I just keep taking the stuff because the side effects are so pleasent.

So... just in case you are checking back to see if my period has come...

No.

It.
has.
not.
come.

and I am becoming convinced that it never will.

But thanks for checking in.

Hi- Delurking to say that the only reason I lost weight on Metformin is because I shit it all out. And continue to do so. 12 months later. I'm sorry you're dealing with a missing period in addition to all of the...."crap."

I don't know how you aren't nuts by now - eighteen months of metformin ickies? Has your doctor mentioned anything about switching to an extended release met? I've had good luck with that. (well, on the stomach issues, not so much luck with the rest)

I hope your cycle ends soon. Those monster cycles suck bad.

Oh sweetie. I'm sorry your period is still missing.

You're not alone in the 18/18. Same here. Metformin hasn't helped my situation in the least. No weight loss, unless you count the water weight from diarrheal dehydration. How can that possibly be good for us?

I can't believe she still isn't here. I stopped taking my Met, I just couldn't handle the stomach issues on top of everything else right now. Well, hopefully by the end of the weekend.....

Sorry, Jaime. I wish there was some great advice I could give. I have been bleeding for three weeks now, if that makes you feel any better, but I am sure at this point you would take that times 10.

I am going to the body exhibit you talked about in two weeks and very excited!

I'm with you on the Metformin. I also have terrible GI upsets! I hate it! I know I should be taking it but I took a break for now. I'll start taking again soon. I just dread the side effects.

Okay at the risk of offering assvice ...

I'm on Met and I've lost 23 pounds (149.5 to 126.5 -- I'm 5'3") BUT I've also been doing the South Beach Diet. I'm not religious about it at this point, but I'm very careful with the carbs and sugar. I also find that the GI troubles are much less when I'm not eating too many simple carbs. When I decide to treat myself I invariably end up paying for it with a quick sprint to the bathroom!

I'm still not pregnant, which is, of course, the real goal. So it hasn't been a complete miracle for me. But it has definitely helped with the weight -- but I think that's only because of the SBD.

I haven't found South Beach that hard. I miss lots of stuff (potatoes, pasta, candy), but I'm not hungry.

Again, I'm sorry if this is assvice. I've only read your blog intermittently, so you may have already tried low carb dieting. But, obviously I hope this helps, at least a little!

Feel free to email me if you want ... tamimforman @ yahoo.com
